All You Need Are Flat-Soled Shoes
That's genuinely it. We supply bowls in various sizes and will help you select the right one for your hand. Wear comfortable clothes and flat-soled footwear (most clean sneakers are fine), and you're ready to step onto the green.
How Jitney Evenings Work
Our regular Monday and Thursday evening sessions are run in jitney format โ a Canadian lawn bowling tradition. A jitney is a casual, social game where teams are drawn on the night from whoever shows up. No pre-registration, no fixed teams, no obligation to attend every session.
Each evening, everyone contributes $5 cash for green fees before play begins. At the end of the evening jitney, we announce 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners to make the jitney a little competitive and a lot of fun.
Thinking of joining? You're welcome to attend up to 3 jitney evenings before committing to full membership โ the $5 per evening still applies (it goes to the green fees regardless of membership status), but you don't need to pay the season membership fee until you decide you want to join. After 3 evenings, if you'd like to continue, membership is $60 for new members for the full season.

๐ Beyond the Jitneys โ Tournaments & Special Events
In addition to the regular Monday and Thursday jitney evenings, the Aylmer club hosts and participates in a variety of special events and tournaments throughout the summer season. These are all optional โ sign up when you want, skip what you can't make.
As a member of the Ontario Lawn Bowls Association, our members can also participate in inter-club tournaments against other OLBA clubs across the province, as well as regional and provincial competitions.
In-Club Tournaments
Special jitney-style tournament days or evenings hosted at our green for members. Watch for announcements throughout the season.
Inter-Club Play
Games and tournaments against neighbouring clubs in the OLBA district. A great way to meet the broader lawn bowling community in southwestern Ontario. For a list of tournaments, visit the OLBA Events Page
Special Events
Social events, potlucks, and year-end celebrations have been part of the club's tradition for decades. Details are announced on our Facebook page as the season progresses.
Specific 2026 tournament dates and details are to be confirmed. Follow us on Facebook for updates throughout the season.
New Teams Every Night
Teams are drawn fresh at each jitney evening โ you'll meet different partners and opponents every time you play, which is great for getting to know the membership.
No Obligation to Attend Every Night
Come when you can, miss when you can't. Because teams are formed on the night, you won't leave anyone short if you skip a session.
Weather Permitting
Play is weather dependent. Check our Facebook page for any cancellations or weather-related updates on the day of play.
